EDS devices rely on energetically stimulating a client with small test ampoules containing physical test substances and monitoring the clients response to these. The motoring process is performed by applying a probe connected to the EDS device to an acupuncture point. The probe monitors skin characteristic changes as the person is exposed to the test substance. The process is very similar to kinesiology AK testing. Their reaction is displayed on a meter. You do not need to know anything about acupuncture in order to use these devices.
To perform screenings with these devices you need ampoule test kits containing everything you wished test for. Test kits are available from the suppliers but are usually at extra cost on top of the machine. In practice the practitioner has to continually place individual ampoules on a test plate, test the client and then remove them. This is the traditional method and works effectively once experienced however the use of Computer Electro Dermal Screening (CEDS) devices makes the whole process far easier and quicker. If you already have a supply of test ampoules then do look at EDS machine, if you do not then you may find that the cost of ampoules plus the machine comes to more than a basic CEDS device.
There are three EDS devices readily available in the UK.
| Vega Basis | Biomeridian Partner | Mora RM10 S | |
| A fully functioning, self-contained EDS device with the additional ability to write energy signatures to magnetic strip cards which can be used as a form of treatment. A good practical instrument sensibly priced. | A new product from BioMeridian. Very compact, well built device offering basic EDS facilities at an extremely competitive rate. A plug on module allows the Partner to be converted to full CEDS (computerised electro dermal screening) capabilities if required. A great introduction to EDS which is upgradeable to the latest technology. | A traditional EAV device offering all the benefits of this stile of testing. High-quality, portable design with basic stimulation therapy facility. | |

All these machines are effective working devices and available at reasonable prices. They each offer slightly different features which you can read about in the reviews.
Our experience of using EDS and CEDS equipment is that this represent an inherently sounds method of analysing peoples health state and requirements. To become a competent user does, like most things, require some practise but ultimately developing this skill base gives you the freedom to control the investigative process and rapidly determine a huge amount of information about your clients health issues.
For students and therapists looking for a base EDS device you can't go wrong with the Biomeridian Partner. This is an ultra portable, inexpensive, know thrills device that is built to a good standard and it's screening ability is only limited to that of the test ampoules available. It can also be upgraded to full Computer Electro Dermal Screening capabilities via a plug on module (the Insight) when required. Future expansion is always worth bearing in mind.
The Mora RM10s is a traditional Electrodermal screening device which has been available for many years and is built to a good standard. Its design is not exciting in any way but it represents a sturdy investment.
If you need a more desk base machine then the Vega Check could be suitable. This performs well and has the additional benefit of being able to write signature information to magnetic cards. The client 'wears' the card and this continues the treatment when they leave the clinic. The only slight disadvantage is that the cards look a bit like a train ticket; they work but do not look very convincing.
