Vega Basis - Review

Summary
The Vega Basis is stylish, self contained Electro Dermal Screening (EDS) instrument which can be used to determine a wide range of nutritional and health issues including evaluating remedies. All tests are performed using manual test ampoules; there is no electronically stored information. The Vega Basis has an unusual and useful feature of being able to produce magnetic strip treatment cards. If you are looking for a competence, basic EDS device with a long pedigree you need look no further.

Testing Features  (Note all tests are manually performed by the use of ampoule sets)
Biological age Indicates degree of body degeneration.
Pre-test Series of generic tests to indicate focus for clients health imbalance.
Environment - Geopathic stress, radiation etc
Emotional - Depression etc
Physical - Bacteria, virus, allergy, food, vitamins, hormone etc
Organ test Determining which organs are most stressed, most damaged etc.
Assess appropriate remedies -homoeopathic, herbal etc to rebalance the organs.
Base test Vitamins and mineral deficiencies, food sensitivities etc limited by test ampule sets purchased.
Treating features
Magnetic strip The Vega Basis can store onto a magnetic strip card the signature information of any items placed on the test honeycomb. The card can be then worn by the client has a treatment process.

How it works
As with all EDS instruments the Vega Basis uses a probe to measure the electrical resistance of acupuncture points. A mechanical meter on the front panel is used to display the probe readings and is scaled between 0 and 100. A nominal reading is around the 80 mark. To perform a test, ampoules containing test substances are placed in the honeycomb plate to energetically stimulate the client and a reading is taken with the probe. If this stimulus causes of deviation in the readings this is used to indicate an issue between the substance being tested and the client. The test ampoules can contain herbal, homoeopathic, chemical or any other substance.

Construction
In common with all Vega equipment the main box is constructed from a reasonable quality white plastic which gives an appropriate clinical and professional look.
The front panel contains the test metre, probe pressure indicator lights, a sensitivity control, power switch and a honeycomb test tray. The top of the unit contains a thin slot which forms the magnetic card writer.
Attached to the side of the device through wires are the stainless steel hand mass and a sprung loaded point reading probe. The Vega Basis is powered by internal rechargeable batteries and an automatic battery charger is incorporated in the device. The batteries should give several days use between charges. The side of the unit has a volume control to set the sound level during testing.
The probe houses a sprung loaded tip which has a spherical end. Lights on the front of the instrument indicate the pressure being applied by the probe and aids the probing process.

In use
When the Vega Basis is switched on via a switch on the front it is immediately available for testing. As with all EDS equipment the client holds a hand mass in one hand and the probe is applied to an acupuncture point on the other hand. In practice the probe is comfortable to hold and can be used with a light touch. A double pumping action of the probe is used to take readings. As a reading is taken the operator has to note the meter readings for each pump and any variation between these. To aid the probing process a series of lights along the top of the meter indicate the pressure being applied by the probe. The same number of lights have to be activated for each pumping action. An audio aid is also provided, as the metre reading increases the audio pitch also increases. The combined process of accurately applying the probe to a point  in a pumping action, maintaining consistent pressure and visually noting two readings takes some practice, however most people should be able to fairly quickly gain this skill.

The screening procedure itself involves selecting suitable test ampoules and inserting them into the test honeycomb on the front panel and then taking a reading. If there are variations in values this is interpreted as indicating a causative factor, deficiency, imbalance etc as appropriate to the test being performed. Noma the UK supplier provide a standard comprehensive screening protocol to follow which is covered in their training. A comprehensive range of test ampoules are available through Noma allowing for the many screening options.

Once the screening has been completed the integrated magnetic strip writer can be used to transmit the frequency information of found remedies to a credit card size magnetic card. The card is placed in the writer at the top of the instrument and the transmission button is pressed. The card can then be worn by the client as a treatment in itself. There is no facility for printing results.

How differs from other devices
The probe and probing action are slightly different to other electro dermal screening devices. The probe stylus is sprung loaded and a double pumping action is used to take readings. It is a matter of personal preference whether you find this method easier than a conventional single application of the probe as used by other EDS devices. The main additional facility of this device is the ability to write signature information to a magnetic strip card and to use this as a form of treatment.

Training
The distributors Noma provide one day's training with the machine. This covers the basic essentials of using the Vega Basis and testing protocols.

Would suit
Most therapists looking for an inexpensive introduction into Electro Dermal Screening. Anatomy and physiology plus a recognised therapy are required.

History
The Vega Basis was launched in 1997 and supersedes the Vega I and Vega Miditest which were developed in the 1970s.
