How it works
As with all CEDS instruments the Biomeridian MSAS Professional uses a probe to
measure skins electrical
resistance at acupuncture points. The controlling computer displays the
probe readings as a graph during testing and records the results for later
analysis. To perform a test the client is stimulating with energetic signature patterns
generated from the
computer database (in which 40,000 testable items are stored) while a
reading is taken with the probe. Where a stimulus causes a deviation in readings this
indicates an issue between the substance being
tested and the subject. Using this basic principle the MSAS can
perform a wide range of health assessments and use the power of the
computer to accelerate the process. Direct evaluation of acupuncture
meridian energetic state can also be determined by applying the probe the
Meridian control points.
Simple pictorial guide to CEDS screening.
Hardware
The main Box is called the MSAS (Meridian Stress Assessment System) and is
constructed from solid aluminium which looks and feels built proof. Its top hinges open to reveal a storage compartment for cables and the battery.
To switch the MSAS on the front panel rotates open to revels the test plate and
small display to indicate the battery charge and basic screening
information. A high quality probe and solid brass hand mass are supplied. The
MSAS is powered by a standard camcorder rechargeable battery which should
give a good day's screening before requiring recharging. All in all it looks and feels very
professional and built for a lifetimes use; the build quality easily
exceeds all other equipment we have looked at.
The compact nature of the MSAS and the use of a laptop computer makes the system portable and it will comfortably fit into a fight case. Set up is straightforward involving the connection of a single lead between the MSAS unit and computer.
Software
Comprehensive Windows-based software controls the screening process and stores
the test results. The results, along with the client details
can be printed out as formal reports at any time. The main testing screen is clear and well laid out with a familiar
windows feel. There are a good range of features available and even
practitioners with very little computing experience should soon be able to find their
way round.
The biomeridian software can be set to run standard nutritional type assessments or more advanced organ health evaluations. Scanning functions allow for large groups of test items to be quickly evaluated, for example several hundred possible remedies can be scanned to find those most suited to the client in less than a minute. This scanning process along with all operations can be fully controlled by the practitioner.

The main computer control Screen
The comprehensive database of some 40,000 testable items is clearly laid out and after some familiarisation is relatively easy to find your way round. A useful feature is the ability to build your own personal test lists (custom libraries) from the main database. With time you can supplement the supplied range of test libraries with a series suited to the type of people and health conditions you work with. An example could be if you worked with people who consumed a lot of Caribbean food then a separate Caribbean food library could be quickly made up.
In Use
Once the operator has been trained the Biomeridian BEST Professional is relatively easy to use
and can be quickly switched between test modes allowing very rapid
assessment of the clients health status.
The screening process first involves entering the client details and then setting up the required test on the computer. Standard screening tests such as vitamins and minerals, food sensitivities etc are easily selected from a supplied range of standard tests. A 32 point vitamin and mineral screening takes about five minutes, a 105 food sensitivity screening takes 10 to 15 minutes. For more advanced body systems analysis the computer guides the operator through the screening process.
The software allows complete control over the investigation process and is flexible in its approach. For the basic screening it is simple enough to use, once trained and with experience you can go as far and wide as you want in your investigations with very few limitations.
For the screening process the client holds the hand mass in one hand and the practitioner applies the test probe to acupuncture points on the other hand. The computer indicates the item or items to be tested and as the probe is applied to the point a graph on the computer screen indicating the client's response. The next item of items can then be selected and tested in the same way. All the results are stored for later analysis or printing. As with all EAV devices the use of the probe takes a little getting used to. It needs to be used in a fairly precise manner, although the latest Biomeridian Shure Touch probe makes the process considerably easier than conventional designs. Probing procedures are fully covered in NutriVital's (the distributors) training and most practitioners will be competently using the probe within a week or so. The time spent mastering this skill is well worth the effort.
A unique feature of the Biomeridian BEST Professional is a summary chart known as a Q chart. When performing a body organ assessment, readings are taken for all the organs using points on the hands and feet and then the Q chart prioritises the treatment order.
Once the screenings have been completed the built-in imprinting device (IMAG) allows the signature information of remedies to be imprinted at homoeopathic levels into a bottle containing a carrier fluid such as a water alcohol mixture. This bottle can then be given to the client to take as drops to form a treatment in itself. The the nature of CEDS screening allows for combinations of herbs, homoeopathic, flower remedies etc to be combined with confidence in these imprinted remedies.
Results
The screening results can be printed out immediately and are presented as convenient,
readable reports. These can then be discussed with the
client and recommendations made.
Effectiveness
In the hands of a competent user the BEST Professional is highly effective
at determining the root causes of clients health problems, and assessing
remedies to rebalance functional health. Subjectively an 80 to 90%
accuracy can be achieved by an experienced and trained
practitioners.
The accuracy and detail of results produce allow for specific treatment
programmes to be prescribed with confidence.
How differs from other products.
Quality is a word that sums up the MSAS Pro; the hardware is solid, reliable and robust and
the software offers all the features you could want in a usable package.
Training
The UK distributors NutriVital Sales Ltd offer comprehensive and structured training program developed over many
years of experience. The basic 5 day training gives a sound understanding of the equipment and its use which should allow confident
use soon after purchase. Following this is a 2 day toxicity screening
module allowing the practitioner to rapidly and comprehensively evaluate
the toxic status of clients and determined the appropriate remedies to
allow detox and drainage. The third level of training instructs the user
in the comprehensive assessment of the clients body systems energetic
health and evaluating causes of imbalance and appropriate remedies. The
training offered by NturiVital is generally considered highly professional.
Invaluably this training program incorporates clinical practise
based on eight years of clinical use by NutriVital's sister company
Biotech health, so you learn to use this equipment at a clinical level not
just the mechanics.
Would Suit
A knowledge of A & P plus nutrition is considered essential for using the basic
features. Extended facilities would suit advanced nutritionists,
naturopaths, acupuncturist's, herbalists etc. The BEST Pro would suit
those interested in controlling the investigative ('diagnostic') and
remedy selection process.
